BadgerLawyer offers this unique program to bridge the gap for people who are on limited budgets but still need legal services. The MyTime program sells legal services in “units” geared toward solving or making progress on a particular issue you may be experiencing. You purchase services in “units,” and you are never surprised by your legal bill.
Law firms are geared toward handling “cases.” They prefer to be hired at the beginning, and they expect to carry the case through to the end. Once they take over, you become the passenger, and they do the driving. Nothing wrong with that – we’d all like a chauffeur.
But for most of us, that’s not in the budget, and we still need to get somewhere.
That’s where MyTime™ comes in.
People today have all kinds of issues in their life, and over the past few decades, the law has crept into people’s lives in more and more places. Whether it’s a drug or alcohol problem, a child custody or support issue, a personal injury, creditor harassment, or small business issue, no one these days escapes a “brush with the law.” While it would be nice to have the money to be able to hire a lawyer on retainer to handle everything as it came up, the reality is most of us have to handle it ourselves.
And it can be overwhelming. Sometimes, it would be nice to get some answers, help, direction. But the problem with hiring a lawyer, is there’s no telling where the bill will stop.
Purchasing MyTime solves that problem. MyTime provides a consultation package of services that is designed to address legal or law-involved issues in your life. MyTime is designed to address a particular problem, rather than resolve a particular case.
Here is how a unit of MyTime breaks down:
Each unit of MyTime includes: | A Normal Law Firm Would Bill: (based on standard $250/hr) |
|
45 minute consultation. (Or equivalent)* | .8 | $200 |
Written evaluation and/or recommendations | 2.0 | $500 |
3 phone calls of 5 minutes or less | .5 | $125 |
3 email exchanges** | 1.0 | $250 |
Misc. additional work to resolve issue | 1.0 | $250 |
Total: | 5.3*** | $1325 |
MyTime units are priced as follows:
Number of Units | Price |
1 | $300 |
2 | $550 |
3 | $750 |
4 | $900 |
If your “issue” will require more than 4 units, it is probably best to treat it as a “case” and use one of BadgerLawyer’s other fee structures.
Who is MyTime™ for?
This service is for people who:
* Equivalent means 45 minutes of time spent on “substantial” legal work such as legal research, writing, or motion template drafting, search for specific programs, negotiation, or other “lawyer work” needed to resolve your issue.
** An email exchange is a brief written conversation on a single discrete topic lasting no more than about 5 “back and forths” and not requiring extensive writing or legal research. The total length of an exchange should not print out to more than 2 pages. It is our policy to be flexible about this, but we reserve the right to set limits if necessary.
*** Please note that we are not promising to deliver 5.3 hours of work for each unit of MyTime. What we are promising is the same quality of work at a fixed, lower rate. The 5.3 hour estimate is what you could expect to be charged by a law firm at regular, inflated rates. Law firms charge by “tenths” of an hour (6 minutes), so you pay $25 for every phone call, even if it only lasts 30 seconds, $25 every time you send your lawyer an email (and probably $50 when he writes one back), even though shooting several emails back and forth on a topic might only take a couple minutes. Law firms inflate their earnings by billing you for time they don’t work on a case. It’s perfectly legal to bill a “tenth” each to ten phone calls in a row, even if each call only takes 30 seconds. That’s how the clever firm lawyer bills an hour in 5 minutes. What we are promising at BadgerLawyer is to wring out that sponge and deliver the same quality of work that would cost you $1325 or more at a regular firm.
